H.P. Lovecraft made two sketches of Cthulhu for correspondents. I used these sketches as the basis for
this sculpture. Original is made from Super Sculpy and I've made copies with resin. They are painted black/green with gold highlights.

Sweet! Im trying to do one of those for my lovecraft class, but since it's the first sculture Ive ever done it's not coming out quite as well as your's
Thanks. I like to imagine that all of the Cthulhu sculptures I see are the work
of the dreamers influenced by Cthulhu in R'lyeh so the quality varies by the artist and all are good. Good luck with yours; hope to see it posted.
Now that is just really man'd cool. Nice work, especially so in that you took reference from Lovecraft's own sketches. Bravo!

Thank you. The hardest thing was putting three eyes on each side. I almost caved in a just gave him the 'traditonal' set of two, but HPL's drawings clearly indicate three, so I went with it. HPL's 'writing' on the base differed on each drawing so I stuck with the one I liked and could see better.
Wow, I had no idea Lovecraft had made any sketches at all (oddly enough, since he has pages and pages of background and reference for his stories). Excellent work translating the drawings to a full sculpt!
Thanks. Hmm, if he'd been a better artist I probably couldn't have pulled it off.
.. where did you find the drawings? I've never seen these, so thanks very much for posting them up. Love the sculpture, also! : )

<salshep> It's true
<ordie> You're write. That's my one-size-fits-all reort.

#Cabal. Because someone needs to be.
I believe both of the drawings are found somewhere in the four volumes
of Lovecraft's Letters published by Arkham House, but they can both be found doing an image search on Google, but you'll have to look at a lot of pages.
I'm glad, 'cause I totally dig the six eyes.
